Collection: Barbells
Our range of barbells is curated from the best brands in the world. Whether you're looking for a basic barbell for bicep curls or olympic barbells for more intense weightlifting, we're confident that we’ve got the right barbell for you.
Barbells are a great tool for weight training, able to be used for a variety of exercises from bicep curls to squats. There’s a number of different types on offer, but with our extensive range there’s no question we’ll be able to find the perfect one to suit you.
For instance, specialty barbells are designed for specific exercises. A great example is the curl bar, designed with bicep curls in mind. These bars take the pressure off your hands and wrists so you can focus on arm strength. A trap bar on the other hand is great for deadlifts. If you're looking to target specific muscles or want something for a specific set of exercises, then one of these specialty barbells is worth looking into.
No matter what type you need, all of our barbells are made from high-quality materials and designed to handle heavy weights. Weightlifting demands heavy duty equipment, but whether you're just starting out or you’re an experienced weightlifter, you can trust our barbells to last.
To help you get started on your fitness journey, we offer a personalised service to help you make the right decision—if you’d like any help, you can always contact us directly or come in and see us in store! Barbells FAQs
Is a thicker barbell better?
The basic rule of thumb when it comes to bar thickness is that a thicker bar is harder to grip. This means you have to engage more muscles in order to use them, and this can improve muscle gains. The thicker the bar, the more grip strength you’ll need. This can make some exercises a lot harder, so you may want a thinner bar if you’re just starting out.
How much should a beginner barbell weigh?
There is a wide range of weights out there for standard straight bars. Typically, beginners start at around 15kg, give or take. We have 15kg bars geared for beginners with a width of 25mm rather than 27mm, which is more ideal for smaller hands.
Olympic barbells, like those used competitively, are often 20kg, and they can come in a few different materials. Our higher quality bars are hardened chrome which prevents chipping. They also feature bearings that allow the plates not to 'grab’ while rotating. Our cheaper 20kg bars are a standard chrome and have bushes rather than bearings.
