Half Racks FAQs

What is a half rack vs. full rack?

The half rack, sometimes also called a half power rack, is a smaller version of a full weight lifting rack. A full power cage will usually consist of four bars that connect to form a box-shaped frame, whereas a half rack system only consists of two upright bars. These are connected together by metal bars for balance, and will also feature metal prongs that can be used as a spotter when lifting.

Even though a half rack is lighter than a full rack, it’s still designed to be a stable foundation for weightlifting. They often aren’t built to handle the most extreme weights, but they benefit by being lighter, easier to put together, and taking up much less floor space. They’re great for both experienced lifters and beginners, but tend to be more popular in home gyms because of their ideal size.

Does a half rack need to be bolted down?

No, half racks are designed to be freestanding and stable, so you can perform weightlifting exercises safely and with confidence.
